What is Rapé? A Sacred Amazonian Snuff for Healing and Clarity
Rapé (pronounced ha-peh or rah-peh) is a sacred Amazonian snuff made from finely ground plants, tree ashes, and sacred tobacco (mapacho). For centuries, it has been prepared and used by indigenous tribes of the Amazon as a powerful tool for healing, grounding, and spiritual connection.
Unlike recreational tobacco, rapé is a shamanic medicine – a plant ally used in prayer, ceremony, and deep inner work. Each blend is unique, created with care and intention, often carrying the ancestral wisdom of the forest.

The Origins of Rapé
Rapé comes from the indigenous tribes of Brazil and Peru, including the Yawanawá, Huni Kuin, and Nukini peoples. It is considered more than a plant—it is a spirit teacher that helps cleanse the mind, body, and energy field. Traditionally, rapé is applied through a kuripe (self-applicator) or a tepi (applicator used by a shaman or practitioner), blowing the medicine into the nostrils.
This act is not only physical but ceremonial. The force of the breath is seen as carrying prayer and intention, awakening clarity and presence in the receiver.
The Benefits of Rapé
Many people use rapé to:
Clear mental chatter and bring clarity
Ground and center the energy body
Release stagnant emotions and blockages
Deepen meditation and prayer
Connect with ancestral wisdom
Each blend carries a different energy. Some are gentle and heart-opening, others strong and protective. For example, Tsunu rapé is known for grounding and protection, Cacao rapé for opening the heart, and Murici rapé for clearing heavy energies.
How to Use Rapé Respectfully
Rapé is a sacred medicine, not a recreational substance. It should always be approached with respect, intention, and gratitude. A quiet space, a prayer, or a grounding practice before and after use honors the spirit of the plants.
It is important to remember: Rapé is not for internal ingestion. It is a snuff, applied only through the nose with traditional tools such as the kuripe or tepi.
